I'm not ready to give a roving robot with three cameras and an array of microphones 24/7 access to my home and family -- and I don't think I'm in the minority on this point. You can also activate routines with the little robot, so it comes into your room to play music when you're ready to wake up, or so it patrols your house after you go to sleep. Astro is much more than an Echo Show on wheels -- but it's still got a lot of the same features as an Echo Show. Astro's dual 55mm speakers and passive bass radiator sound awesome, and having it follow you around playing the best-sounding music to come from a smart speaker or display is pretty cool.
But Astro's novelty, like that of smart speakers in the early days, didn't last as long as I expected. Within a few days, my kids were less interested in seeing Astro. If I prompted them to play with it, they would either dutifully tell it to do the robot or use it as another Echo Show device to play music or stream a video.

They’re exceptionally easy to switch out and change around without being so easy to remove that they fall off, and new parts are available from Astro’s website. The headset performs admirably when it comes to bass-heavy songs. Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz sounds excellent thanks to its emphasis on lower frequency sounds, with the kick and bass shining through clearly. The headset falters with songs that have mixes that are more even across the frequency spectrum, however, such as Sleep Now in the Fire by Rage Against The Machine. Here, the bass isn’t as present and the guitars and cymbals aren’t conveyed with the tone and clarity that I’m used to, primarily due to the inconsistent treble response. The higher strings in an orchestral track like Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 also sound slightly less present than I usually expect.
This includes compatibility with the PlayStation 5 and PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch , Steam Deck, laptops, gaming PCs, and mobile phones. The headset includes a splitter that changes the TRRS jack into a TRS audio output and TRS microphone input connector. Unlike some of its competitors, the A40 TR does have a detachable cable, although it may be difficult to replace due to its non-standard connector. Called IPTV again, was told we cannot do anything until Maxis take actions. I got so frustrated, threatened that I will cancel my subscriptions of 2 days due to 'services not rendered'. The ### girl at the Astro IPTV can actually tell me that there's a 'PENALTY' if I do it.
Playing with kids
While £230 isn’t the cheapest for a gaming headset, the A30 Wireless may just have enough going for it to put it on the top of the tree in our best gaming headset roundup. The A40 TR features detachable panels on either ear cup that are attached with magnets. Astro advertises these as “customizable speaker tags” that can be easily detached and swapped out to style the headset to the user’s liking.
That meant that it got stuck once or twice on my kids' blocks, trying to simply drive over them. Over the time I spent with Astro, I saw it consistently improve at rerouting and at confidently navigating the space. At first, it struggled to avoid getting stuck on C-stands -- the stands that hold lights used during filming -- but by the second week, it didn't have any issues with them anymore. Finally, we set Astro on its dock once again, and this time installed a Ring door/window sensor on the entry point for the break-in.

No doubt some of the technology used in the Echo Show 10 inspired the Astro. The Echo Show 10 has a screen that follows you, although it does have a rotation limit of 350 degrees. The logical next step was making that even more mobile in the form of Astro’s complete freedom to turn, move, and look just about anywhere. You’ll regularly run into the “Trying to get unstuck” prompt when new obstacles are in the way. Sometimes it will cause Astro to give up completely and wait for assistance even when there are obvious exits. At some points, if it gets stuck enough, it will become disoriented and not know where it is.
Echo devices, by contrast, can optimize their listening to their environment -- and achieve noticeably better results. This speaks to how impressive Astro's navigation really is. It moves around the house quickly and efficiently, adjusting to changes in the environment, like shoes left by the front door or doors along one route left closed. And the longer it stays in your house, the better it becomes at navigating. The door Chris entered wasn't directly in front of Astro, but if the robot swiveled right, it would have a clear view of the break-in. In our first attempt, Astro didn't respond at all to the sound of Chris entering .

Subscription to patrol your house and send you notifications when it sees someone entering while you're away.
Astro's setup, if you don't run into these problems, is simple and easy -- and it gives you some fun ideas for how to use the robot. Staircases with railings around them aren't particularly unusual architectural features, but Astro is still learning how to map them. For what it's worth, though, once it had mapped the floor, I removed the cardboard and Astro navigated for the rest of its time in the house without a serious problem.
If nothing is going on after a while, Astro will choose a different room to go hang out in. Eventually, without sufficient activity, Astro will make its way back to its charger on its own and then repeat the cycle. To put Astro's security chops to the test, we set the robot to "Away" and staged a break-in. Astro has its own distinct personality, expressed charmingly with its animated eyes and assorted robotic sounds.
Their front end does seem to to their job, but the backend are doing zilch. We are so frustrated and upset with Astro that we are going to apply Maxis and get Netflix instead. Audiophiles often champion wired headsets for their lossless audio transmission and usability, but what about the gaming community? The Astro A40 TR (“tournament ready”) was built with esports in mind. This open-back gaming headset has a closed-back look and features a 3.5mm headphone jack connector, microphone, and a solid plastic and metal design, which makes it feel sturdy and robust. It’s an enticing offer for a new gaming headset, and we spent a week with the A40 to see if it’s worth the price.
If you are mat salleh, like me, a TEN year customer, it’s even worse. We test every headphone we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. The Astro A30 Wireless breaks the mould of other gaming headsets, especially when it comes to its modern, excellent-looking design.
When you pull up the live feed on the app, Astro chimes to let people in the house know they're about to be on camera. Then the periscope cam peeks out of its housing and gives you a live view of the house. The whole process could have gone fairly quickly, but I ran into some issues right away. Long used for robot vacuums to help Astro efficiently map your house, then navigate smoothly and efficiently when given simple voice commands, like "go to the bedroom" or "take this drink to Andrew in the living room." The payment on the Nov 22nd RM3.30 - I actually accidentally paid twice but did you ever return it back to me?
The Astro A30 Wireless provides a great all-round experience for those wanting a stylish headset to use on lots of devices. It’s well-built, looks fetching and offers superb levels of both comfort and passive noise isolation. The audio here is energetic and well-rounded, and it comes with good separation too. The Astro A40 TR delivers on several key areas that are important for a gaming headset. It’s versatile, and usable with a wide range of gaming platforms and other devices. The design may be off-putting to some, but the color scheme is definitely a matter of preference.
